Qatar-Moldova Relations

The relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Moldovan are based on the mutual respect and the desire of both sides to develop these relations to the best for the common interest of both countries. The beginning of these relations goes back to 1997 when the Qatari and Moldovan sides have signed a protocol of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Later, the two sides have signed an agreement for cultural cooperation and a protocol for consultation between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on 30.05.2010.

The evolution of the relations in all fields

Consideration should be given to the future of bilateral cooperation relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Moldova with a justified optimism. The strengthening of the relations began in the light of Mr. Vlad Filat’s, former Moldovan Prime Minister, visit to Qatar on 12.11.2012. During that visit,  Mr. Filat met HH the father Amir, and HE the then Prime Minister/ Minister of  Foreign affairs, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani. The bilateral relations between the two countries have witnessed further development and cooperation, culminated in the opening of embassies of the two countries during the years 2013- 2014 to be the start of a real cooperation and promising future relations between the two countries. Furthermore, the relations have seen encouraging steps both in terms of visits, contacts, messages and even submission of mutual invitations between officials of the two countries, all of which will be mentioned later. The relations have also witnessed promising steps in terms of meetings held with Moldovan officials, who all praised the deep bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Moldova and the elegant approach of state Qatar, promoted by the opening of the Qatari embassy in Chisinau. The desire of the two countries to promote the bilateral relations may be shown in several areas such as the agreements that have been signed between the two parties, the bilateral agreements’ projects and memorandums of understanding that have been formulated pending a final draft for signature. The political instability in Moldova, led to the change of government more than one time since 2013. It has disrupted the signing of most of these projects which are still under examination by both parties.
